The exact origins of the acromantula are unknown, but they are believed to be an artifically bred species since the earliest reports of acromantula were found guarding dwellings or treasure. Acromantula are giant carnivorous tarantula-like spiders that can reach a leg-span of over fifteen feet. Acromantula possess extremely large chelicerae (pincers) with which they use to pierce and shred bodies of their prey - typically large animals and humans. Venom produced by an acromantula is extremely potent, able to paralyze creatures larger than themselves with a single bite.

ARAGOG

THE ACROMANTULA

Aragog is a blind acromantula who was owned by Rubeus Hagrid, Gamekeeper of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. As a spiderling, Aragog was initially kept in a dungeon cupboard as a pet until Hagrid's expulsion. Since then, aragog has been dwelling in the Forbidden Forest and set up his colony there. Like the rest of his species, Aragog possesses a taste for human flesh allowed his children to hunt and consume anyone unlucky enough to stumble upon his colony. The only human Aragog restrained from attacking was Hagrid himself - other creatures are sure to feel his full might.

ABILITIES

VENOM

Acromantula venom is extremely potent - a single bite able to render any creature helplessly paralysed and dying from the inside out. A cure is hard to come by as few substances in the world are strong enough to reverse the effects of acromantula venom.

SPIDER AGILITY

No point in having more legs if they don't do any good. Acromantula, being eight-legged like any spider, possess extreme agility - they are able to cling onto walls and trees, jump several times their height and move with astonishing dexterity.

WEB

Acromantula built huge lairs with nothing but their webbing, so it is no surprise that the substance is incredibly strong. With a tensile strength greater than kevlar, getting caught in an acromantula web is not something any creature would look forward to.
